Women's coats

A coat is the last thing you put on and the first thing anyone sees. Forcast coats come in tailored, double breasted, cocoon, hourglass, shawl collar, tie-waist and trench styles, cropped and long, in wool blends and suiting, in sizes 4 to 18. They are made for women who spend winter mornings on a train platform and want a coat that still looks sharp over a suit.

Choosing a coat

A tailored or double breasted coat is the most formal and sits cleanly over a blazer, which makes it the one for a corporate wardrobe. A cocoon or shawl collar coat is rounder and more relaxed, and better over knits and dresses. A trench, full length or cropped, is the between-seasons option. A cropped style suits wide leg pants and long skirts, where a long coat would hide the line.

What to wear it with

Keep the layers under a fitted coat slim: a fine knit, a shirt, tailored pants. A cocoon shape has room for a chunkier jumper from our knitwear range. A belted or tie coat gives you a waist over a knit dress. A scarf changes the colour story without buying a second coat, so it is worth browsing scarves and accessories at the same time.

Fabric and fit

Wool blend coats bring the warmth and hold a tailored shape, while trenches are the lighter choice for autumn and spring. Longline sleeveless styles such as the Kiya Longline Sleeveless Vest sit between a coat and a jacket, and layer over a long sleeve knit without adding sleeve bulk under a blazer.

How to shop the range

Sizes run 4 to 18. Try a coat over the thickest thing you will wear underneath before you decide on a size, and check the measurements in our size guide if you are between two. For shorter layering pieces, look at jackets and blazers, or see everything warm in one place under outerwear.
